Doorway Protection

Dear Neophyte,

My front door does not work; which make it akin to the false doors of tombs that Egyptians used to leave offerings at. I will use this somehow in my banishment of evil spirits.  Tricking them into going for the wrong door or whatnot, and getting locked outside my house. (Pictured: Egyptian False Door)

But as for my actual working door, I have done a bit of protection to it for several reasons.  First we have four friends who are treating our house like their own and wearing out their welcome.  They expect to come over when the sun has gone down, keep us up all night, eat several meals a day here (with no compensation) and then go home long enough to sleep before coming back to do it again.

It's rude to go to someone else's house hungry, eat all their food and then tie them up entertaining you for hours and hours until you get hungry again and want more food.  To fix this I placed this sign on the back door.

Beware all Ye Who Enter Here!
House rules:

1. Our cats shed on anything they can climb on or into
2. Guests are responsible for feeding themselves
3. We tend to be early to bed and early to rise people
4. Call at least 30 min before dropping by

Along with this sigh I placed the following, which naturally has my door cluttered up, but I can deal with aesthetics latter:

"No Trespassing" sign for the police (apparently this is needed to stop your basic civil rights from being violated without your consent)

"No Solicitations" for salesmen
"Member of a Respectable Non-Cult Religion - No Conversion Seekers" for the JW and Mormons, this sign complete with a link to http://www.neopagan.net/ABCDEF.html

I traced a triquatra in the air on the back of it and said something to the extend of:

"Let all ye enter here
who are friendly unto me,
Yet against all I stand
Who carry not my key."

Which is another bit of miss-matched poetry.  Then I smacked the door with my palm and imagined an invisible wall of blue coming up in the doorframe.  Kind of like a third door.  Its purpose was to keep people from entering the house that did not have a 'key'.  I.e. Burglars and ill wishers, bad spirits and negativity.  Basically anything that was not wanted.

I think this just about covered everything.  It's sad when your back door has to be covered with so many signs in order to get people to either leave you alone or behave as they should when not in their own home.

Sweeping Away Negativity

Dear Neophyte,

As I swept my porch today, I chanted:

"With this broom I sweep this place,
Power of Air, I cleanse this space."
(Another $RW knock off chant, damn her!)

Some times I lost focus because I was doing an ACTUAL sweeping, but I picked up where I left off.  I imagined my broom as sweeping away all the negative and bad energies that had collected on my carport and were rolling it off the carport and into the grass; into the Earth.  Again, I never send negativity towards my neighbors or I might get it back some day.

This can be applied to any sweeping done anywhere - I just happen to be cleaning outside my house when I came up with this.

Mindful Living Tips

Dear Neophyte,

1. On Buying Veggies:
Try to get local grown first, organic second and non- genetically -modified third. If this is not feasible, or you can’t afford them, it’s ok. But please practice good Earthly Stewardship regarding your food purchase. Feeding the humans is what is causing the majority of the pollution problems. The word’s agony sits on the store’s shelves; it’s your choice.

2. Shop Mindfully:
At least WONDER where your products and items come form, even if you can’t find out right away.

3. Spiritual Mindful
Recently I’ve come to believe that not all spirits who wander are lost. Some are just not ready to let go. It’s like wanting to live one more day just to see the sun set again. Yes, you could be in a better place. But really, the better place isn’t going anywhere, but once you let go to this reality, you can never come back. Or at least, wont remember what you left behind when you do.

4. I have religion because the Gods are the only people in my life who cant leave me and as long as They are there I will never be alone.

These spirits aren’t suffering; they just aren’t ready to move on.

More to come in the future :)

Random Bits of Magic

Dear Neophyte,

This is a list of random bits of magic that I practice regularly.

~~ I purify the offerings of dry tea leaves ‘that they be made pure to aid growth and flourishing’. I add to my Basil, which is blessed to bring abundance to my household.

~~ My aloe is to ward off accidents in the home.

~~ I water my plants with a Jack Daniels shot glass that my brother gave to me. Each time I use it I pray for emotional healing.  The person who gave me the shot glass caused a great deal of trauma to me early on in life.  In constantly reminding myself of the trauma I bring it to the foreground of my subconscious thinking process so I can work on that for emotional healing.

Speak Softly

Dear Neophyte,

I am working on speaking softly and carrying a big stick. More importantly, I am working on LISTENING. I’m so used to trying to rush threw the conversation that when someone stumbles, I will finish their sentence for them. I’ve come to the conclusion that this habit is rather rude as you are putting the spotlight on yourself. Instead, I tried to wait a moment and see if the person I was talking to could find their own words again. If not, I was able to substitute what I though was trying to be said. I was very successful at least once.

Going alone with speaking less and listening more, I am watching my tone of voice. By making an active attempt to lower my voice and notch or two, I seem to sound less threatening, even to myself. Speaking quietly is a traditional mark of a good Witch. In speaking quietly, the stereotypical witch could listen even AS she was speaking.

This is duly noted.

Blessing Mop Water

Dear Neophyte,

When I moped my floor today, I forgot to bless the mop water because, after all, I am new to hearth crafting. But as I mopped, I prayed over my mop to remove the traces of negative energy that are tracked threw my kitchen by the people that live in my home.

I never banish negativity to the left or right, or sweep it outside. To me, this is as rude as if dumping dirty mop water on your neighbor’s shiny car. Don’t just sweep it out of your environment because this means you are sweeping it into someone else’s.

I visualized the negativity draining threw my floor and into the Earth, and asked the Earth gods to take it and do what they wish with it. As an experiment, I tried visualizing it just dissipating but, no knowing ‘where’ it was dissipating off too, I changed back to the draining visualization.

My Craft isn’t strong enough to clean the negativity out of my kitchen in one pass but I did at least get some of it. And I’ll get more next time I mop and eventually it will be all gone. There is a LOT concentrated by the door leading into the den.

Possible blessings for mop water is to follow the same formula you do for Holy Water, just in a larger form.  Add charged cleaner (bless it for it's purpose) or essential oils (also blessed for purpose) and get going!

Keeping up the work :)

Teeth Blessing

Dear Neophyte,

Yep, you read it right; a blessing for your teeth!  Why not?  As a Hearth Witch, it's not just important to keep the house, yard and food with your Craft.  It's also important to keep YOURSELF with your abilities.

One way I am practicing visualization and supplication is to pray for blessing while brushing my teeth.  I go three rounds on my teeth.  Each time I pray for something different while using visualization to see my goal as being accomplished:

1st round: Removal of negativity
2ed round: Removal of physical imbalance
3ed round: For healthy teeth

I may or may not pray for blessings upon my mouth that I always speak wisely and only when needed.  Going along with my desire to 'be silent" as they Witches' Pyramid instructs.

This kind of practice is helping me to do three things at once: Visualize, pray and keep my eyes open so I don’t have to close them in order to get a mental image.  All important skills to a Witch.
