Hozier- Take Me to Church

Dear Neophyte,

This song has very powerful lyrics for people who are disillusioned with mainstream religion. The chorus that starts with "Take me to church...", for me, translates to "Drag me to religious services I don't want to attend in order to make me a mindless puppet who obediently sits there and listen to your litany of lies. I'll try to open up to you in order to soak in your doctrine, but you'll just pour salt on my soul wounds and tell me it's my fault it burns." I especially love the way he points out the corruption of religious officials (historically documented, up to and including today) who are suppose to be down-to-earth and trustable.

I love religion. I encourage it. I don't like seeing the devout being mislead by others who just wants bigger congregations, fewer other religions to compete with, or to take control away from the masses. The only One True Religion out there is the sea that all the rivers flow to. Personally, I don't care which river you're on or if the captain of your boat's name is Isis, Allah, Buddha or The Doctor. God or Goddess' (or combinations thereof) speed to you as you travel that Great River to the Sea.

That this song is being played on the mainstream radio gives me hope. I only hope it can help lead others down a road towards their own spiritual awakening and happiness the way other similar media led me to mine.

Salutations,
Sesh
